Blooming Boldly

It's no lie that I'm a big fan of makeup. #sorrynotsorry. I've always had a good size collection of cosmetics since my pre-teen years. It started with a bunch of products my mom didn't wear anymore... we weren't allowed to wear them out of the house at the age of 10 (and rightly so because we looked ridiculous), but my sis and I LOVED playing "make-over" any chance we got!

As much as I have always loved trying new products, my makeup routine stays pretty consistent from day to day. I wear basically the same look every day, maybe with a different lippie or eyeliner. It's partly due to the fact that mornings and I do not get along very well, and the less thinking I have to do, the better! But it's also because I've found so many great products that I just keep re-buying them when I run out!

People have different perspectives when it comes to makeup... how much you should wear, how you should apply it, how much you should spend... My "everyday" face is a pretty full face of makeup which means I use a lot of different products. That can get pretty dang expensive really fast! My motto is always to get the best product you can for the lowest price possible... so you can get even more great products! ;) I'm always looking for cosmetics that are the perfect mix of affordable yet quality. It can take trial and error, but over time I've found lots of drugstore makeup that more than get the job done, while still keeping a few extra bucks in your pocket!

Today I'm giving you a peek into my makeup bag and sharing 12 products that I love and use on the daily! And good news - all but one of them are under $15!

FACE

Revlon ColorStay Foundation: Combination/Oily - $10

I am crazy about this long-wear, drugstore foundation! I feel like I have been telling everyone about it lately! I have already repurchased three times - so you know it's good! Before trying the Revlon Colorstay, I was using Kat Von D's Lock-It Foundation. I loved the finish and coverage but was not crazy about paying over $30 for foundation... My budget needed something a little cheaper and I read somewhere that this Revlon foundation was considered a "dupe". I've been hooked ever since! (P.S. it's under $10 on Amazon! It's more like $13 at Target or Ulta which is still better than $35!)

It comes in two different formulas based on skin type - the combo/oily formula comes in 22 shades, which is a ton of selection for a drugstore foundation, and the normal/dry formula has an impressive 13 shades. I've only tried the combination/oily formula, but I love that it has a very small amount of salicylic acid in it to keep breakouts under control! The normal/dry formula is said to have hyaluronic acid in it which helps skin hold moisture. It has a demi-matte finish, medium to full, and is definitely long-wearing, although I've found it depends a lot on the powder you set it with! When I used a crappy powder, I only got about 4 hours before it starts slipping off my face. But with a good one, I easily get 10 hours of perfect wear! And talking about a good powder brings me to the next product on my list...

Revlon ColorStay Pressed Powder - $8

I have only tried this powder with the Revlon ColorStay foundation, but let me tell you... it is good! I don't usually care about sticking with one brand for both foundation and powder, but it's like these two were made for each other or something ;) Like I mentioned above, when I switched over to this powder, I was shocked at how much longer my foundation was staying put! This powder gave a really nice matte finish without looking too pasty or powdery. I felt like it had a smoothing effect and helped minimize fine lines and large pores. Plus, it keeps oil under control!

If you find this product in the picture at the beginning of my post, you probably noticed it's completely empty! I actually ran out of this powder a few weeks ago and decided to try something a few bucks cheaper, one that happens to be about the cheapest drugstore powder out there and one that TONS of beauty bloggers claim to love... but holy cow that was a huge mistake! My foundation is looking cakey, separating around oily spots on my face, and looks like it's literally sliding down my nose after like 3 hours :( I'm going back to the Revlon powder ASAP!

Tarteist Pro Glow Highlight and Contour Palette - $42

This palette... I am majorly obsessed! It has two bronzers (one powder and one cream) and four shades of highlighter. The pigmentation is amazing and they are super blendable and buildable. I do a small bit of contouring most days, and lately, I've been using this as eyeshadow as well! It gives a really natural look to have the same shades of highlight and bronzer all over your face. Just makes you look so glowy and gorgeous! You all know I love drugstore brands, but so far none of the cheaper contouring products I've tried have even come close to this amazing set when it comes to blendability and lasting power!

If you aren't ready to make a $42 investment yet, they also have a smaller Pro Glow Pallete with one bronzer and two shades of highlight! The shades are a little different but I'm sure they are just as amazing!

e.l.f. Makeup Brushes -$30

I have had tons of e.l.f. brushes in the past but I got this 11-piece e.l.f. brush set for Christmas, which has only deepened my love for them! Their professional line, which the black handles, are the perfect mix of affordable yet high-quality. The bristles don't break off all over your face, they hold up well to cleaning, and they distribute product evenly. This set in particular has just about every brush you could need, but if you want to start with just a couple, a few of my faves are the complexion brush which I use for my setting powder, the angled blush brush which is great for contouring and blending, the blush brush which is great for sweeping just a touch of color on your cheeks, and the contour eye brush which is boss at getting in your crease!

e.l.f. HD Undereye Setting Powder - $3

This setting powder is super fine and lightweight. I know a separate setting powder for your under eye concealer isn't really a "necessary" step, but this one is amazing at keeping your concealer from setting into creases and brightening up any bags you may have hanging out. I personally have very deep creases under my eyes that are impossible to camouflage completely. My normal setting powder that I use all over my face tends to settle into such a big wrinkle and only make it worse. But this stuff doesn't accentuate them and helps keep things bright!

EYES

Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner - $6

I have been using this eyeliner since high school, and every time I try something else, I end up coming right back. This eyeliner is waterproof, so you're definitely gonna need some eye-makeup remover at the end of the night, but that also means it stays put like nobody's business! So many other eyeliners either start smudging all the way down my face, or just wear off and start disappearing... does that happen to anyone else? I love that when I put this one on in the morning I know it's still going to be there by the time I'm going to bed. And a favorite aspect is the multi-tool on the bottom - one side is a smudger and if you pull it out, it's a sharpener! So whether you want a dark and smokey, smudged look, or a thin, barely-there line, this bad boy's got you covered and it's not leaving until you say so!

I didn't realize until putting together this post just how many of my current faves came from the Revlon ColorStay line! I'm kinda thinking I need to try ALL their products now if these three are all so awesome!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Micro Eyeliner - $5

I said in my intro that I rarely shake up my makeup routine from day to day, but if I do, it's usually to go for a liquid liner instead of my standard pencil. I had tried liquid liner a few times in the past but never been very successful at applying it... it was so much work and always ended up way heavier than I intended. I got this liquid liner pen in a promo box from Influenster and it's so much easier than any liquid liner I've tried before! It's basically a big marker, which gives you a great grip, and it has a flexible, tapered felt tip. They aren't lying when they call it "micro" - the tip is tiny which makes it so much harder to accidentally end up looking like a raccoon! It doesn't smudge or move during the day, but isn't hard to remove either. And how can you beat less than $5 bucks!

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara - $6

This mascara is the newest addition to my current makeup routine but I am a huge fan so far! When it comes to mascara, I want length and volume, but I do NOT want all my lashes to stick together! This one claims to give you a "full fan effect" and the brush is made up of 10 rows of bristles. I love the brush because it does a great job at evenly coating each lash and combing them out! I found that during the first week or two, WAY too much product was getting on the brush. But as I used more and it started to dry out just the slightest bit, it has gotten easier and easier to apply! It does a decent job of curling your lashes, but my stick-straight babies need a lot of help... next time I think I'll try the Lash Sensational Curvitude!

e.l.f. Instant Lift Brow Pencil - $2

This is another product I've used for years and years. I've tried two other brow products that I can remember in the last 5 years and just wasn't that impressed. This one isn't anything fancy but it gets the job done! The deep brown is a great match for my natural brow color. In the summer when my hair lightens up from the sun I sometimes go to neutral brown, which despite its name, is a very warm brown. I love that it has a spoolie brush on the end - those get gross after a while but now I get a new one every time I buy this pencil! Best of all, its TWO DOLLARS making it by far the cheapest beauty product I use. As I would expect with a cheap product like this, it's fairly waxy, but for an eyebrow pencil that's perfect! I haven't found anything wrong with it (although the color selection is really limited), so I can't find a good reason to spend more!

Ulta Matte Eye Primer - $12

This eye primer is SO similar to the Urban Decay Primer Potion. Thick and creamy, matte, and BOMB at keeping your eyeshadow in place. But the Ulta Primer is only $12 instead of $22! I love this stuff because it keeps your eyeshadow from settling into creases on your eyelid, which keeps things looking natural. And it helps your shadows show up more pigmented, which means you need less product! I tend to only use this guy when I know I'm gonna have a long day and need my makeup to stay locked in place. And this stuff definitely does the job!

LIPS

Sephora Cream Lip Stain - $14

I can't talk about favorite beauty products and not bring up this matte lipstick. I've talked about it before over on my Instagram (here and here) and done a little wear test. This stuff is my all time fave! It's super easy to apply, comes in 40 shades, and literally lasts ALL. DAY. LONG. Like well over than 12 hours! A few of the shades are "satin matte", like Infinite Rose which has an amazing shimmer finish, but most of them are a flat matte. I wore the shade Marvelous Mauve on my wedding day (see it here on my Insta) and didn't have to touch up once! Seriously amazing stuff and for $14 you can't find anything better!

Rimmel Oh My Gloss! Oil Tint - $6

Matte long-wear lipsticks are my fave because once they're on, you don't have to think about them again... but the one downside is that they can be really drying, especially if you use them every day! This Gloss Oil Tint is great for those days your lips need some extra moisture but you still want a pop of color! It's an oil gloss, which is something I've never used before but feels so amazing on your lips. It's also a tint, so even though the oil may not last, it leaves behind a touch of color. It's super lightweight and not at all sticky. My lips feel nourished and moisturized at the end of the day!

Well, there you have it, friends! All my fave current beauty products that have passed my own personal standards for great quality and amazing price. Next time you're in the market to try something new, I hope you'll test one of these out!

Have you tried any of the products on this list? Did you love it as much as I do?! If not, what's your current fave beauty product? Let me know in the comments - I'd love to hear from you!

I may be a little bit nail-polish obsessed.

What's funny is that until college, I honestly didn’t like the look of my nails painted. And I didn’t care enough to keep up with them if I did paint them, so they were usually chipped and gross for weeks following. That was not the best look!

My roommate during my freshman year of college LOVED painting her nails. She did it constantly, like at least once per week and sometimes more! And in the name of procrastination, like any good college student would, I started joining her when she took a study break to do her own nails. Soon after, my love of a good at-home mani developed. Now, years later, I've continued to make a DIY manicure part of my weekly routine! (Thanks for starting this obsession, Bethany (; )

Doing my nails is a great way for me to take care of myself and spend some time pampering… Nothing else makes me feel like I have my life put together more than a perfect polish!

I've tried a LOT of nail polish brands, and Essie is hands down (no pun intended!) the longest lasting nail polish I’ve encountered. I can usually get a solid 4-5 days before it starts chipping, even without a top coat! That felt like a huge difference to the 3 days, sometimes even 2 I got from other brands. I've ended up with a big collection of Essie colors over the years, which is mostly thanks to so many friends who have helped feed my obsession. One year I ended up getting 6 different colors from different friends and family during one Christmas season!

**This post contains affiliate links, meaning I may get a very small commission when you click on or make a purchase from one of these links, at no extra cost to you.**

I’ve always wanted to try a gel manicure but have always talked myself out of it… First of all, I’m cheap, and they aren’t. Secondly, I have super thin nails and I’ve been afraid such a hard to remove polish would DESTROY my poor, weak nails. But when I saw Essie had a gel top coat I just KNEW I had to try it!

You all, this Essie Gel Setter top coat has for real changed my life.  It is so easy to get a long lasting mani at home! After 7 days, I only see a little wear at the tips and a bit of growth at my cuticles. Don't believe me? I took a photo every day for a week to prove it to you!

Nail Color: Brides No Grooms

Look at that awesomeness! A whole week, and I haven't had to touch up my nails once!

So, let's talk details.

The Essie Gel Setter top coat sells for $10 ($9.50 on Amazon!), or you can find it in sets with a color polish for about $15.  You can use it with any Essie nail color, which means you don't have to buy any special nail polishes, like you have to with the Essie Gel Couture line and many other drugstore gel systems.

This top coat applies like any top coat, just a little bit thicker. You use a base coat if you'd like, apply two coats of color and then a layer of top coat. Even though it seems thick going on, it actually seems to dry faster than a normal polish or top coat, which is always helpful for avoiding smudges! And since there are no extra steps, like special base coats or UV lights, a gel mani with this process doesn't take any longer than polishing your nails at home usually would.

I can easily get 7 full days of wear when I wear this top coat paired with an Essie polish! Sometimes I can get an extra day or two by adding another layer of top coat on day 6 or 7.

I know professional gel manicures last longer than a week, but they also cost significantly more! A $10 bottle of this stuff lasted me a solid 18 months. With a base coat, a few layers of an Essie polish, the cost per wear is $0.50! It would take 70 at home, weekly manicures to reach the same cost as one salon gel manicure that lasts 2-3 weeks. That's almost 18 months of DIY manis for the same price as one professoinal gel mani! The savings are literally insane! Plus it's become a relaxing ritual for me to spend some time doing my own nails once a week.

Of course, even the most beloved product is never 100% perfect. The biggest down-side to the Gel Setter is that once it starts chipping, it keeps chipping. It's so shocking to me almost every time because manicure looks basically perfect... until all of a sudden it's a mess. But 7 days of looking good is definitely far better than the 4 or so days I get without this top coat!

Another negative for some people may be that Gel Setter works best with Essie nail colors. For me, that wasn't a problem because Essie was already my favorite brand and I had been stocking up for years. I have quite the collection now! But a little secret... most of my Essie polishes have come from Marshalls or TJ Maxx for $4ish bucks :) That makes them the same price or cheaper than most other quality polishes! Totally worth starting a collection of your own!

Overall, this is one of my most favorite, holy-grail beauty products of ALL TIME. I love having pretty nails but refuse to pay to get them professionally done. Essie Gel Setter lets me have the quality manicure I want but by DIY-ing it without leaving home!

If you're ready to try your own Essie Gel Setter DIY Manicure that will last you a whole week, here are a few of my favorite colors to get you inspired!

Have you tried Gel Setter before? What did you think? Do you have an all time favorite beauty product you love as much as I love this one?! Share with me in the comments below!

Who else loves trying new makeup and skin care?? I have such a BAD habit of buying new products just for the sake of trying them. I may have a face wash or mascara that I absolutely LOVE but if I see a new one that grabs my interest, I just have to test it out and make sure it's not better than what I'm currently using! That doesn't always go very well for me (or my wallet!), but I today I've got some amazing products to share with you that I promise are worth every dollar!

I had the chance to try a few skin care and makeup items from the brand LimeLight by Alcone. Never heard of them? I hadn't either until my sweet friend Abby recently became a LimeLight Beauty Guide! I already knew Abby took her beauty product recommendations seriously, and if she was willing to back this brand completely, then I knew they had to be quality! When she found out I was starting a blog, she asked if I would test out some products and share about them with my readers. Of course, I said yes!

If you haven't heard of LimeLight, let me tell you a little about their history - because their story and reputation are really what convinced me I needed to try some products. Alcone started out in the 1950s as a family-owned store in New York City that sold theatrical makeup. Eventually, Alcone was the go-to store for nearly every Broadway show and New York film production. They only the top brands, what the pros use on the stage, screen, and runway. But in 2015, they launched LimeLight as a way to get the best makeup brands in the world into the hands of the everyday woman. While most brands manufacture all their own products, LimeLight is different. They partner with many of those same top brands they've sold for all these years and basically sell the same products, made by the same manufacturers, but with LimeLight's branding and packaging. PLUS they added their own totally natural skin care line to the mix! So you're getting professional grade makeup and luxury skin care, but from a personal beauty guide and at a price point the average woman can afford!

Abby sent me a cleanser, moisturizer, and mask from the skin care line, as well as a sample of foundation and a bunch of lip colors to try! I tested them all out and took a bunch of photos along the way so you can see for yourself just how they turned out! And for the record, I was given product samples, but no other compensation. All opinions shared here are my own and 100% honest :)

Skin Care

So let's start with the skin care products! That should be the first step before your makeup look anyway :) I tested out a cleanser, face mask, and moisturizer from LimeLight.

Dream Clean

Outfit Details (affiliate links)
T Shirt (Target) | Bralette (Target)

The Dream Clean cleanser is a naturally foaming cleanser that's best for normal to oily or acne-prone skin. I've got oily skin with acne issues, so this was perfect for me! It's infused with aloe vera, soapberry, and white tea extract, which help to fight off acne-causing bacteria and reduce dark spots and sun damage.

I LOVE a good foaming cleanser, and I think the fact that this one foams because of soapberry, a naturally foaming fruit, is really neat! This cleanser smelled amazing, really light and fruity but not too sweet. And it felt great! It really seemed to cut through all that makeup, oil, and dirt that collects on my face during the day!

The sample had enough for me to use morning and night for two whole days. I had a few small blemishes when I started using it, and it seemed to me that they faded much quicker than usual!

Masque of Zen

Another great product I tried was the Masque of Zen. This is a clay mask made with tea tree oil, white carrot oil, and cinnamon bark. The mask smells strongly like tea tree oil, which is a scent I personally. If you're not familiar with it, I'd say it's almost a minty, woodsy smell, if that makes sense! Tea tree and cinnamon oils are both well known for their acne-fighting skills, and carrot oil is rich in vitamin A, which keeps your skin cells healthy. This mask was fairly lightweight but smelled awesome. I felt like it helped pull the blackheads on my nose up to the surface which was awesome too!
I love taking advantage of face masks as often I get the chance. There's just something about them that's always so relaxing! You're doing a little something to pamper yourself, you've gotta sit still for at least a few minutes, and usually, they smell pretty great! Sometimes you take the mask off and your skin doesn't look or feel any different, but it was worth it because at least you got to sit, rest, and scroll through Instagram for ten uninterrupted minutes. Sometimes they smell good, but you know they were scented with artificial ingredients. But this is not one of those masks! My skin felt super soft afterward and the next morning the few small blemishes I had really did seem smaller. And it really just smells amazing! I wish I could explain it to you better, but you're just going to have to try this one yourself!

Calm Balm

First of all, how great is that name! I love it! Calm Balm is a lightweight moisturizer with aloe vera, kendi oil, and other plant extracts. This one did not have a super strong scent like the other skin care products, which I didn't mind actually. Since it's the last one I put on my face, I liked that it wasn't overbearing and that the smell didn't linger as I went about my day. The consistency on this one was almost more like a serum or a gel. It spread easily across your face and didn't take long soak in fully.

One of my skin issues (other than oily and acne LOL) is redness, especially on my cheeks. I love that this moisturizer has aloe in it - the same ingredient we all use in the summertime to beat redness and inflammation from sunburn!

My skin felt crazy clean after this routine. I almost didn't want to put makeup on! My redness was soothed and my skin felt soft and smooth.

Makeup

Skin care is fun, but let's get on to the extra fun part! The colorful part! I tried LimeLight's Botanical Foundation, their Enduring Lip Color, and their Signature Lip Gloss! Keep reading for the details on them all.

Botanical Foundation

So LimeLight calls this foundation their Botanical Foundation, but the formula is actually one of the top-selling professional foundations worldwide from the Research Council of Makeup Artists (RCMA). The RCMA foundation is basically the gold standard for foundations and is used by the pros on celebrities like Beyonce, J Lo, Kim K, and Blake Lively!

When you look at the details of what makes up this foundation, it's no wonder that it's so well-loved. Its ingredient list includes only vegetable oils, waxes, and FDA approved colors. A wax-based foundation was a new one for me! It's more like a cream foundation than a liquid, and as you move it with your sponge, it warms and becomes easier to work into your skin. The coverage is buildable and you can get very light, sheer coverage or absolutely opaque, full coverage. It doesn't clog your pores and leaves you with a really natural finish!

It takes a surprisingly little amount of this stuff to totally cover your face! I ended up using about half of what was in this sample container for one application. That just goes to show how super pigmented this stuff is! According to LimeLight, most liquid foundations are between 18-23% pigment, but their botanical foundation is at least 50% pigment! For real, this stuff will last you forever!

To apply this wax foundation, get a small amount of the product on your finger and dab it all around your face. Then using a sponge or beauty blender, start working the product into your skin. It worked best for me to use my beauty blender and a rolling motion. This stuff just melts right into your skin! It's crazy! The coverage is awesome and I loved the way it made my skin look. It totally minimized the large pores on my nose and cheeks too!

I'm wearing shade 7 - Shinto 1, which Abby matched for me just from looking at photos on Facebook (she's got skills, y'all!). They've got 12 shades on the foundation, and you can get it alone, in a bundle with two concealers, or in a palette with 6 shades!

I set the foundation with a little powder and then finished up the rest of my look! The finish of this stuff is kind of amazing to me. It covers SO well but at the same time, looks like I don't have anything on! It's definitely one of those "your skin but better" products that we all want!

Enduring Lip Color

This was the item I was most excited to try from LimeLight. Their Enduring Lip Color is a long lasting liquid lipstick. I've shared on Insta before about my obsession with Sephora's Cream Lip Stain... and this one is STRONG competition to that love! If you haven't tried a liquid lipstick before, they usually come in a tube with a wand like lipgloss, which I think makes them so much easier to apply. I don't know how they make them, but they're basically magic and stay on through eating, drinking, talking, working, whatever as long as you don't go too crazy. I love wearing lip color, but hate having to remember to touch it up during the day, so a long wear liquid lipstick has become a staple for me!

This color is called Wedding Cake, and it's a great berry color with a gorgeous shimmery finish! I've found that while shimmery liquid lipsticks look AMAZING, sometimes the staying power is lacking. They just tend to rub off more quickly in my experience. But I'm happy to report that this is not the case with the Enduring Lip Colors! Check out this kiss test -

A teeeeny tiny amount did come off, but if you'd done that while wearing a gloss or traditional lipstick, the smudging would have been way worse! This would easily last through a meal, and probably an entire work day, which is just what I want.

This color is one I NEVER would have picked for myself, but I'm so glad Abby sent it! The shade is Salted Caramel and it's a warm toffee color. I always stay away from these shades I would normally call brown, but I actually really liked this color with my skin tone! It's warm and fairly dark, but still neutral enough that it doesn't feel loud.

Macaroon could easily become my new everyday color! I wouldn't call it a nude shade, but it's definitely pretty neutral. The Wedding Cake shade is in the pink family too, but Macaroon is a lot warmer. This shade gives you some color but isn't so bold that it draws too much attention to your lips! I feel like I could wear this out running errands, or dress it up and wear it for date night, and I love shade that can be verstile like that!

Signature Lip Gloss

I know I've gone on and one about my love for long-wear liquid lipsticks, but I definitely still love a good lip gloss too! These Signature Lip Glosses are so smooth and moisturizing. They're fairly sheer but still pack a good punch of color. You can layer them over the Enduring Lip Colors or wear them on their own. I tested them out solo here so I could get a good idea of each shade!

The first gloss I tried was Love and it's a great "your lips but better" shade for me! These glosses have a bit of sparkle to them, but I think it's just enough!

The other gloss shade I tested was Dream. It is basically bubble gum but I kind of love it! It feels like a super girly color, but sometimes you just need that, right?!

And just in case you're interested, here are some swatches of all the lip colors I tried side by side! They are in the same order I shared with you, starting with Wedding Cake near my wrist down to Dream closer to my elbow.

Make-Off Remover Cloths

Lastly, when you're ready to take it all off, you can use one of the Make-Off Remover Cloths! I don't use makeup removing cloths on the regular (I stick to a cotton ball and some liquid remover) but I can totally see myself using one of these on a night when I'm way too tired to do my full skin care nightly routine. I know, I know, you should never skip out on skin care... But that's just real life! Stuff happens and I get tired and washing my face suddenly sounds sooooo hard. These LimeLight cloths are great because you don't have to wash your face afterwards! They have no parabens or gunk that will clog up your face, and they don't leave you feeling oily or slimy!

Woo - we made it!

That was a LOT of information and if you stuck it all the way through, thank you! I hope you learned something new about this neat brand and liked seeing my opinions on everything! LimeLight offers so many amazing products, I really suggest you take a peek around their website. If you want to shop through my friend Abby's link, just click here!

Have you tried LimeLight before? If so, what product is your all time fav?! And if not, which one are you dying to try for yourself? Leave me a comment and let me know!
